Editorial Foreword

Welcome to the inaugural issue of Vascular Health and Risk Management. It is our hope that this journal will provide a vehicle for the timely publication of important clinical information from studies undertaken by the international scientific community in academia and other institutions (ie, public, private, and government). Here at Dove Medical Press, we recognize that it is going to take some time for this new journal to find its rightful place, and we believe that we have the dedication, patience, and fortitude to reach that goal. Do we need another clinical journal, and one specifically dedicated to clinical vascular research? My answer is simply yes. I believe there are many unique and complex issues associated with vascular health and disease and there is a need for a specific medium. More than ever, these issues require sophisticated analysis, proper interpretation, and unbiased dissemination. Arguably, when the analyses of complex clinical issues as they relate to vascular health have been identified, the appropriate medium has to be available to disseminate the knowledge. It is well recognized by many scholars and authors that many scientific papers that deserve publication do not find the appropriate journal and thus will not reach, at least in a timely manner, the professional community. Vascular Health and Risk Management allows scientists and scholars to voice their opinions, disseminate knowledge, and have their work published without delay. Needless to say, unlike mainstream journals, we do not plan on shying away from publishing controversial papers on cardiovascular matters, but will only do so following rigorous peer-review. In this first issue, we have touched on a number of topics that are of interest to the medical community. Our editorial team works closely with contributors to publish papers of high quality that offer meaningful and critical information that further advances our knowledge and understanding of vascular biology, physiology, pathophysiology, and pharmacotherapy, with the ultimate goal of enhancing the quality of human life. To this end, we encourage contributors to submit original research papers on novel clinical information relating to vascular health, risk, and disease. We also encourage commentaries, reviews, letters, case reports, expert opinions, and drug evaluation reports. Finally, no journal can function without the input from reviewers, authors, editorial board members, and production staff. Therefore, I wish to express my appreciation and thanks to all contributors to the journal as well as Dove Medical Press for their dedication, patience, and tremendous help in preparing this first issue of Vascular Health and Risk Management.
